The position is to be filled by 10/1/2026 and offered for a fixed term from 1 October 2026 until 31 March 2027.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 8 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 16,80 €.

ANTS searches and analyses in research and teaching for solutions and methods to make anthropogenic material flows recyclable. Thus, we aim to develop a raw material management at the product and material level as well as to demonstrate and to implement it by means of practical examples. With its previous expertise, the department is one of the leading research institutions in Europe in the field of mechanical and sensor-based processing technology. The ANTS combines the modelling and evaluation of processing and recycling processes with a view to entire product systems and life cycles in the sense of a circular economy and complements this expertise by technical implementation and demonstration.

The Chair of Anthropogenic Material Cycles (ANTS) is seeking a motivated Research Assistant with Bachelor´s degree(f/m/d) and immatriculation in a consecutive course starting in October to support the tutorials of the course “Material Flow Analysis and Assessment Methods”. The course provides foundational knowledge in the field of environmental
assessment and circular economy, covering more specifically: Material flow analysis, life cycle assessment, circular economy assessment, criticality assessment, and relevant political frameworks. Furthermore, during the tutorials, students will gain practical experience in modeling with the openLCA
software using the ecoinvent database. You should bring the following competencies:
- You have successfully attended this course or similar a course related to environmental assessment, life cycle assessment, material flow analysis, or circular economy.
- You have experience with openLCA.
- You are motivated, reliable, and able to work
- You have very good English skills, both written and spoken.
- You enjoy explaining technical and methodological topics to other students in a clear and accessible way.
- You have an interest in sustainability, circular economy, and environmental assessment methods.
- You are open to contributing creative ideas for improving teaching materials and tutorials
Ihre Aufgaben
- Support students during tutorials and assist them with questions related to exercises, calculations, and openLCA modeling.
- Help students understand key concepts related to material flow analysis, life cycle assessment, circular economy assessment, and related methods.
- Support the preparation, review, and improvement of lecture and tutorial materials.
- Assist with organizational tasks related to the course and tutorials.
- Contribute your own ideas to improve the seminars and tutorials and make the learning experience more interactive and accessible.
- Support the teaching team in creating a constructive and motivating learning environment.
