The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 8 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 16,00 €.

ANTS searches and analyses, in both research and teaching, for solutions and methods to make anthropogenic material flows recyclable. Thus, we aim to develop a raw material management at the product and material level as well as to demonstrate and implement it by means of practical examples. With its previous expertise, the department is one of the leading research institutions in Europe in the field of mechanical and sensor-based processing technology. The institute combines the modelling and evaluation of recycling processes with a view to entire product systems and life cycles in the context of a circular economy and complements this expertise with technikcal implementation and demonstration.
Ihr Profil
We are seeking a motivated student assistant (f/m/d) to support programming- and AI-development tasks for sensor-based material flow monitoring in recycling processes. A central focus is the processing of data from our custom-made sensor-based systems and the development of suitable AI-models and analysis dashboards to allow inline evaluation of the material stream. Additionally, it is possible to support the development and implementation of new sensor-based systems, for instance in real industrial plants.
To be succesful in this role, you should possess the following:
- Immatriculation in a consecutive course
- Interest in material cycles and life cycle analyses
- High motivation and strong communication skills, not just on an academic level, but also regarding experts from industry, such as plant operators
- Analytical thinking and eye for detail
- Interest in mechanical processing and sensor-based monitoring technologies
- Ability to work independently and proactively, and a willingness to collaborate in a team
- Good English and sufficient German language skills
- Knowledge of image processing, machine and deep learning or data science in Python
- A driver’s license (class B) is a plus, so you can support us in transporting sensor-based systems to project partners
Ihre Aufgaben
- Support of our scientific staff by independently conducting literature research, preparing and analyzing experimental data, and creating scientific figures
- Independently assist in the development of Python-based AI-models, analysis tools and data processing
- Helping with (the preparation of) experiments in the laboratory and pilot plant, and corresponding data collection
- Taking up general tasks
