The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term until December 31, 2027.
For doctoral positions, an extension to a total of 3 years is planned.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.

CARE – Climate-Neutral And Resource-Efficient Construction is a prestigious Cluster of Excellence funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and jointly led by RWTH Aachen University and TU Dresden. Our mission is to revolutionize sustainable construction by integrating innovations in climate-friendly building materials, resource-efficient design principles, automated manufacturing technologies, novel digital methodologies, and integrated sustainability frameworks. RWTH Aachen University invites motivated early-career researchers in the field of sustainable construction to apply for several positions as research associates. Successful candidates will conduct independent, high-level research aligned with CARE’s mission and contribute to our interdisciplinary agenda of reimagining construction for a climate-neutral future. Applications are welcome from a broad range of relevant disciplines, including civil and structural engineering, architecture, environmental sciences, materials science, sustainability science, computer science (digital construction), and related fields.
Ihr Profil
- For doctoral positions, a University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field is required. For postdoctoral positions, a completed PhD in a relevant discipline is also required.
- Strong interest in sustainable construction and motivation to contribute to impactful research aligned with CARE’s mission.
- Excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken (English is the working language of the cluster). Knowledge of German is a plus but not required.
- Flexibility and willingness to collaborate in a dynamic, diverse team. An open approach to working across disciplines and the ability to communicate ideas constructively are essential.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a creative approach to research challenges.
- Self-driven, solution-oriented work ethic with initiative and responsibility for leading research tasks.
