The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of one year.
It is intended to extend the contract initial contract period up to four years.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.

- You are passionate about innovative future technologies in mobility!
- You enjoy working independently on engineering and technical challenges. You love to get to the bottom of complex problems and remain persistent in your search for a solid solution, even if it takes longer.
- Along the way, you put your analytical and conceptual skills to good use and work in a structured manner towards a solution.
- You recognize when it is time to seek input from others and are not hesitant to ask your team for advice. Likewise, when your team needs support, you are ready to contribute.
- You have successfully completed your university studies (Master’s or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, data science, automation engineering, naval architecture, or a related field.
- Good communication is essential for collaboration within our international team. Therefore, you should be able to communicate complex technical topics clearly and effectively in both written and spoken German and English.
- You are interested in software-driven systems, digitalization, and data-driven methods in maritime engineering
- Ideally, you have initial experience in one or more of the following areas:
- maritime systems or autonomous vehicles
- data analysis or machine learning
- modeling and simulation of technical systems
- software development
- basic programming skills in common languages and tools (e.g., Python, C/C++, MATLAB, ROS).
Ihre Aufgaben
- You develop and investigate novel methods and software concepts for Software Defined Ships and apply artificial intelligence methods to current challenges in the maritime domain.
- You test and evaluate your ideas in simulation environments, in X-in-the-loop testing setups, and on real systems. In doing so, you collaborate with international partners (e.g. from South Korea) and support the on-site integration, testing, and validation of the developed approaches.
- You present and publish your research findings at international conferences and workshops as well as in scientific journals.
- As part of your teaching activities, you transfer research results into teaching and thereby enable students to benefit from a practice-oriented education.
