Unser Profil
The Chair of Psychological Diagnostics and Intervention at the Institute of Psychology is led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Günther. Our mission is to accurately describe, classify, and predict human behavior and experiences, as well as to provide effective measurement tools. In psychological intervention, we focus on the treatment of mental disorders and support for psychological stress. We offer a young, dynamic team along with collaborations with strong national and international partners.
A position for a PhD candidate is available as part of a DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft)-funded project (4 years, 75%, TVL13). The project is part of the Research Unit “Bilingual Flexibility – The Psychology of Language Control”. Expected start date would be January 1, 2026, or soon after. The project title is “Bilingual Flexibility: Language control in the interplay of cross-linguistic transfer and language prediction in morphosyntactic processing for adults and children”. The goal of the project is to better understand the cognitive mechanisms underlying bilinguals’ ability to flexibly switch between using one language versus another.
Ihr Profil
- Very good academic degree (Master or equivalent) in psychology, speech and language therapy, cognitive sciences, psycholinguistics or a comparable field.
- Team spirit, reliability, independent working style, and excellent communication skills.
- A strong interest in language acquisition research and bilingualism.
- Very good English language skills.
- Knowledge of German and/or French is an advantage but not mandatory.
Ihre Aufgaben
You will be part of a team within an ongoing project that investigates processes of code-switching among bilingual children and adults. There will be close cooperation with other projects from the DFG Research unit "Bilingual Flexibility." Your activities include:
- Recruiting participants
- Conducting experiments
- Documenting results up to evaluation
- Publishing results (English-language scientific articles & conference contributions)
- Independent research as part of your dissertation
