Unser Profil

At the Chair of Biological Psychology & Social Psychology (LuF) at RWTH Aachen University, we investigate how the brain enables successful social communication. We combine behavioural studies and EEG to analyse language, social cognition, and interpersonal coordination. Our work sits at the intersection of social neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and social psychology.

The position advertised here extends our current research programme to include multilingualism. The post is part of the DFG‑funded project “Bilingual Flexibility: Partner‑adapted Language Balance and Bilingual Switching in Social Interaction,” embedded in the DFG research unit “Bilingual Flexibility — The Psychology of Language Control.” Bilingual speakers adapt their language use to conversation partners and social situations. In this project we investigate how partner and features of the interaction shape this situational language balance.

This is a joint project with the Chair of Prof. Dr. Iring Koch (Institute of Psychology). The subproject hosted at the Chair of Biological Psychology & Social Psychology (Prof. Dr. Anna K. Kuhlen) focuses on behavioural lexical‑naming tasks and complementary electrophysiological (EEG) measurements to study situational language balance in interactive contexts, with a particular emphasis on partner‑adapted, bilingual lexical selection.
