The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled by 3/1/2026 and offered for a fixed term of three years.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.

The Physics Institute IIIA at RWTH Aachen University is looking for a research assistant (f/m/d) - PostDoc for the MADMAX experiment.
Our institute and the Department of Physics at RWTH Aachen University offer a vibrant community of particle physicists who play a leading role in experimental particle physics experiments, such as the CMS experiment at CERN. RWTH Aachen University is one of the leading research universities in Germany.
MADMAX is an experiment currently in the research and development phase. Its aim is to detect dark matter using the concept of a dielectric haloscope. In Aachen, we contribute to this work in several aspects: simulation of the electromagnetic response, analysis of data of detector prototypes, studies of candidate disk materials, design and operation of prototype systems, development of calibration strategies. Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for this purpose

Ihr Profil
We are looking for an employee with a doctorate or equivalent qualification in physics. You have experience in laboratory work and the simulation of complex systems. Ideally, you have experience in radio frequency (RF) technology or have already worked in an axion experiment. The ability to work in an international research environment is expected, including proficiency in English.
Ihre Aufgaben
Your task will be to actively engage in the development of the foundations of the MADMAX experiment and to operate prototype detectors. In this context you will supervise the numerous activities in the local MADMAX laboratory. Among other things, we have various setups for testing prototypes of the MADMAX booster in the laboratory and the associated measurement technology, such as a vector network analyzer. You will also participate in the activities of the international MADMAX collaboration and supervise students in their final theses.
