The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term for 12 months.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 6 hours.
The weekly hours may be increased
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15,20 euros per hour.

Unser Profil

The research areas of the Institute for Hearing Technology and Acoustics deal with topics in acoustics related to human auditory perception. The goal of our institute is to expand interdisciplinary research in the field of perception and processing of sound in complex acoustic environments for different listeners. We also study with the physical and technical aspects of sound generation and propagation of sound. In this context, measurement techniques and simulation technologies are developed to explore the physics of complex acoustic scenarios, but also for computer-aided generation of acoustic scenarios using acoustic virtual reality.

The applications are very diverse and extend far beyond electrical engineering and information technology issues to tasks in building construction, urban planning, mechanical engineering, IT and communication sciences, and medicine which open immense opportunities for (interdisciplinary) research.

Our main fields of research are:

  • (bio)-medical engineering, in particular health care engineering (life-sciences)
  • psycho-acoustics and auditory cognition in complex acoustic environments
  • audio engineering, spatial recording and reproduction, and media technology
  • mechanical engineering, in particular automotive and NVH engineering,
  • civil engineering with focus on noise control, room and building acoustics, urban mobility

Ihr Profil

  • Currently enrolled in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • Programming skills in Matlab and Unreal Engine. If not, the candidate is expected to be motivated to learn Unreal Engine in a limited time.
  • Modelling skills in Sketchup, Rhino or Blender is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and high level of motivation.
  • A careful, structured and documentation-oriented way of working
  • Good communication skills in English.

Ihre Aufgaben

  • In this position, you will be involved in a research work in the field of Architectural Acoustics, Concert Hall Acoustics and Audio-Visual Perception Studies
  • You will provide support in programming and implementing listening tests in Virtual Reality using Unreal Engine, Matlab and Reaper.
  • You will provide support in conducting such experiments in the lab environment.
  • Support in process of data collection and analysis.
