Ihr Profil

You hold a university degree (master's or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automation technology, or computer science. You have a strong basic knowledge of control and automation technology and are keen to develop your knowledge in this field, contribute to scientific projects, and pass it on to students as part of your teaching activities. Ideally, you have already gained initial experience in Python, C++, Matlab/Simulink, Linux, ROS, or similar in a control engineering context. Technical experience in the fields of perception, navigation, mapping, and trajectory planning for mobile robots is desirable, but not required. You can develop novel solutions for challenging technical problems in a team, are fluent in German, and have good knowledge of English.

Ihre Aufgaben

As part of the AREA.AI research project, partners from research and industry are working together on an autonomous transport system for low-emission raw material extraction. You will be responsible for the development of algorithms that behave robustly in the demanding mining environment and adapt to the current conditions. You will work in a team of two on the AREA.AI project and will be able to utilize the institute's many years of knowledge in the field of mobile robotics and navigation. A central part of your work will be handling uncertainties in automated vehicle guidance to improve safety and robustness. In particular, you will quantify and process uncertainties in localization and environmental detection so that these can be used in planning and control. Additionally, you will apply the developed algorithms to the test vehicles in the mine and adjust them iteratively. You will have the opportunity to present yourself and your development as part of the demonstrations.

We are interested in you developing freely and setting your research priorities based on existing approaches. The scientists at IRT have a wide range of methodological expertise and will support you with their many years of experience. You can regularly share your scientific results with the community and make contacts worldwide. We are looking for a dedicated employee for the AREA.AI project as part of the “Mobility” group as soon as possible.
