Unser Profil

The Chair for Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University, together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, forms one of the leading European research centers for applied laser technology. In our Quantum Photonics group, we develop innovative photonic technologies for future quantum networks. Our focus is on the development of high-performance photonic quantum interconnects that serve as interfaces between different quantum information platforms. Through our research, we enable the interconnectivity of heterogeneous quantum architectures and thus make a central contribution to the scalability and networking of quantum computers and communication systems.

We work closely with excellent national and international partners and offer you the opportunity to participate in this dynamic environment - including research stays at leading partner institutions.

Ihr Profil

You have successfully completed your university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in physics, electrical engineering or a related field and would like to do a doctorate. You are proactive and enjoy dealing with new scientific issues in depth.

What you should bring with you:

  • Enthusiasm for quantum technologies and photonic systems
  • Sound knowledge of programming and data analysis (e.g. Python)
  • Ability to work in a team and strong communication skills to cooperate with national and international partners
  • Enjoy scientific exchange, for example through publications in specialist journals and presentations at international conferences

Previous knowledge in one of the following areas is advantageous, but not essential: Quantum technologies, optics, laser technology or high-frequency electronics.

Ihre Aufgaben

You will research and develop photonic quantum interconnects as central interfaces for future quantum information networks. The aim is to flexibly adapt the properties of photonic wave packets in order to enable low-loss and scalable interconnectivity between different quantum platforms.

Your activities include:

  • Basic research in the field of photonic quantum interconnects as part of publicly funded projects
  • Development, setup and execution of experiments and simulations for the characterization and optimization of quantum interconnects
  • Supervision of students for academic work and internships
  • Scientific publications and presentations of your results at international conferences

Through our close cooperation with leading research initiatives such as the Quantum Internet Alliance, you will have the opportunity to test and further develop the technologies you have developed with top partners in high-caliber demonstration experiments - including research stays with excellent international partners.

We offer you a highly innovative and dynamic research environment with first-class development prospects - be part of the next generation of quantum technologies!
