Ihr Profil

You have successfully completed a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automation technology or computer science and have the following knowledge and skills:

  • basic knowledge in the field of control and automation technology or data science
  • ability to work independently and scientifically
  • ability to work in a team
  • flexibility
  • good written and spoken English
  • ideally programming experience in C++, Python, Matlab or similar in a control engineering context
  • experience with GNSS-supported localization is desirable

Ihre Aufgaben

Building on the successes of the FireFly project, the follow-up project FireFly2 is investigating the navigation of drones and aero taxis in urban areas. While the previous project focused on localization using GNSS and LTE signals, the focus in FireFly2 is on the combination of GNSS and innovative pseudolites. Pseudolites mimic the signals of navigation satellites and can be used to support navigation systems, for example, in urban environments with limited satellite visibility. This enables highly accurate positioning in previously unsolved inner-city scenarios. The developments are therefore an important step towards autonomous mobility in a wide range of applications.

As part of the doctoral position, you will research novel approaches to application-oriented sensor fusion and localization together with interdisciplinary project partners from research and industry. Your work will cover a wide range of issues in the following areas:

  • Development of innovative navigation algorithms for robust estimation of the vehicle position, velocity and orientation
  • Integration of state-of-the-art sensor technology
  • Assessment of the robustness of the methods used,
  • Implementation of the algorithms in prototype software
  • Experimental validation on test vehicles.

You can regularly share your scientific results with the community at international conferences and in academic journals, and build up international contacts. You will gain comprehensive expertise in the field of localization for autonomous systems, work in a team with other scientists and student employees, and pass on your knowledge to students as part of your teaching.
