Unser Profil

Humans produce 400 million tonnes of plastic per year worldwide - 16 gigatonnes are expected to be produced by 2050, which is the combined weight of all humans, animals and fungi on earth. Plastic production consumes huge amounts of energy, causes large CO2 emissions and leaves behind mountains of waste in the environment. The Werner Siemens Foundation will support the RWTH with 100 million Swiss francs for the catalaix research project. The "catalaix" research centre will work on establishing a multidimensional circular economy based on the open-loop principle. This means that catalysis-driven recycling will be used to produce molecular building blocks that are so versatile that they can be fed into various value chains and material cycles. This makes it possible to link previously isolated material cycles and develop a flexible circular economy. Prof Alexander Mitsos, Head of the Department of Process Systems Engineering (AVT), is part of the core team of this multi-PI project.

Ihr Profil

You have received a very good university degree (master's degree or equivalent) and an excellent PhD in computational engineering, mathematics, computer science, chemical/process engineering, energy systems engineering, or a related subject. Strong project management and  communication skills are indispensable. Very good communication skills in English are essential. Good knowledge of German is an advantage.

Ihre Aufgaben

The research work will be at the interface between chemical engineering, catalysis and machine learning. You will have the opportunity to generate forward-looking solutions in a highly motivated team. You should also be interested in participating in courses organised by the chair.

Please send your complete application with CV, Master and PhD certificates electronically to Prof. Mitsos, PhD: jobs.svt@avt.rwth-aachen.de
