The Institute of Linguistics is characterized by a wide range of topics, combining comparative, diachronic and phonetic approaches to the study of natural language interaction, and is a leading participant in all linguistic collaborative research initiatives. We offer a full-time position as a research assistant (f/m/x) in the area of discourse studies for a period of three years.   YOUR TASKS You will contribute to the consolidation and expansion of the Discourse Studies research area in the Linguistics Department You will carry out research that will advance current research into the multimodality of language use. We particularly welcome interest in spontaneous and/or professional storytelling, multimodal discourse segmentation, classical cognitive-linguistic topics such as metaphor, metonymy and blending and in the interface between syntax, prosody and pragmatics. The Uhlirova lab (www.uni-koeln.de/inter-fak/cecad/uhlirova/) is dedicated to investigating the impact of stress on various aspects of development, homeostasis, aging, and disease progression. Our research primarily focuses on deciphering the complex role of stress-inducible signalling pathways and the mechanisms that govern gene expression. We employ a comprehensive approach that integrates functional genetics using both Drosophila and mouse models, as well as a wide range of techniques spanning molecular and cell biology, multi omics analyses, advanced microscopy, and bioinformatics. We seek a highly motivated applicant (f/m/x) to play a central role in supporting our research initiatives and contributing to ongoing laboratory projects.   YOUR TASKS Active engagement and contribution to the research projects of the lab Assist in the onboarding and training of new lab members and students Coordinate and establish processes related to project licenses, animal welfare, and genetic engineering Ensure compliance with safety programmes, including handling biological and chemical hazards and chemical waste disposal Enforce adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and policies Develop teaching materials and contribute to the organization of teaching activities Manage and maintain the group’s websites   YOUR PROFILE Completed university doctoral degree in life sciences Strong background in genetics, molecular and cell biology Ability to carry out an independent scientific project and commitment to high-quality research Expertise in working with genetically modified animal models in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act, holder of FELASA B qualifications Project management according GenTSV (S1/S2) and experience in working with authorities Excellent communication skills, fluency in German and English Strong organizational skills and thorough documentation skills Ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload to meet project requirements Strong collaborative and teamwork attitude   DESIRABLE: Post-doctoral research experience Experience in multi-omics research projects and data analysis Experience with a Drosophila model Experience in supervising junior researchers and students Proactive behaviour, strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills   WE OFFER An interactive and supportive research environment A diverse working environment with equal opportunities Support in balancing work and family life Extensive advanced training opportunities Occupational health management offers Flexible working time models   The University of Cologne promotes equal opportunities and diversity.
