The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term until 31.10.2025.
An extension of the contract is planned and desired.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 8 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15,20 € per hour, from 01.04.25 16,00 €.

The Department for Industrial Furnaces and Heat Engineering (IOB) at RWTH Aachen University is dedicated to advancing research in the field of metallurgical processes. Our department focuses on innovative solutions and technologies that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of steel production. We engage in various research activities, collaborating with industry partners and academic institutions to drive forward the boundaries of knowledge in metallurgy.

Our department has developed its own electric arc furnace process model and has created an initial draft of its documentation. We are looking for a motivated student research assistant who will be responsible for improving this documentation, ensuring it is comprehensive and user-friendly. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our ongoing research efforts while gaining valuable experience in technical documentation.

Ihr Profil

• Bachelor`s degree and immatriculation in a consecutive course
• You are currently studying in atleast the 1st semester (Master's degree) of Engineering or Sciences
• You are interested in first principles modeling 
• You have previously worked with Python and preferably, some previous experience in Python documentation

Ihre Aufgaben

• Familiarizing yourself with literature related to electric arc furnace (EAF) modeling.
• Creating and enhancing technical documentation for the process model based in Python.
