The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled by 4/1/2025 and offered for a fixed term of three years.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time position (75 % of the standard weekly hours for full-time employees).
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.


Unser Profil

The Chair of Physical Geography and Geoecology, headed by Prof. Dr. Frank Lehmkuhl, focuses on the fields of geomorphology, geoecology, geoarchaeology and Quaternary research
Currently 10 employees work in the research group


Ihr Profil

  • university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in physical geography or geosciences
  • Sound knowledge in the field of Quaternary and landscape research, in particular with sedimentological and/or geochemical methods, preferably with a focus on loess research
  • Knowledge of GIS and multivariate statistics is desirable
  • Reliable, ambitious and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • good written and communication skills in English 
  • Trips to Southeastern Europe lasting several weeks
  • Driver's license required for travel in Southeast Europe

Ihre Aufgaben

The position is part of the DFG project: “Human response to environmental change in the north-eastern Carpathians and adjacent regions between 30 and 15 ka” which is implemented in cooperation between institutions of geography, geosciences and archaeology.


  • Participation in field work (sampling, geomorphological mapping) in Romania
  • Evaluation of the data using multivariate statistical analyses
  • Presentation of research results at conferences 
  • Writing of scientific publications

The candidate can complete a PhD-Thesis based on peer-reviewed publications in the framework of the project.
