The position is to be filled by 12/2/2024 and offered for a fixed term of 1 year.
A long-term cooperation is highly desired.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 8 hours.
A long-term cooperation based on yearly extensions is desired.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 15,20 €.


Unser Profil

ANTS searches and analyses in research and teaching for solutions and methods to make anthropogenic material flows recyclable. Thus, we aim to develop a raw material management at the product and material level as well as to demonstrate and to implement it by means of practical examples. With its previous expertise, the department is one of the leading research institutions in Europe in the field of mechanical and sensor-based processing technology. The ANTS combines the modelling and evaluation of processing and recycling processes with a view to entire product systems and life cycles in the sense of a circular economy and complements this expertise by technical implementation and demonstration.


Ihr Profil

We are looking for a motivated Research Assistant/Associate with Bachelor's degree (f/m/d) to support the SBQC-PO research project for the development of a sensor-based inline quality monitoring system for the processing of shredded lightweight packaging waste. The project aims to develop an AI-based material flow characterisation and automated quality management system. The project not only includes the development of AI models, but is also actively involved in setting up suitable experimental tests, preparing materials and analysing experimental data.

You have:


  • Bachelor's degree and immatriculation in a consecutive course.
  • Knowledge or high interest in the field of machine learning, computer vision and sensor data.
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • Knowledge of image and sensor data processing or time series analysis is a plus.
  • Analytical thinking and an eye for detail.
  • High motivation and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and willingness to work in a team.
  • Good command of the English language.

Ihre Aufgaben

  • Collaboration in the research project ‘SBQC-PO’: You will support us in the development of a system for the assessment of plastic flows using machine learning methods.
  • Analysing and processing hyperspectral data using Python.
  • Support our scientific staff by researching literature, preparing and analysing experimental data and creating scientific illustrations.
  • Supporting the institute with general tasks.
