In a team of talents, we pursue the goal of redesigning existing measurement technology with new methods and algorithms. The mission of our team is to redefine the limits of metrology and at the same time to bring together the triad of production safety, medical (technology) and machine learning algorithms (e.g. by quantifying uncertainties). For example, why not simply transfer a Bayesian Neural Network for manufacturing safety to robotic surgery in the operating room? Topics to be researched by you include process modeling using machine learning algorithms in the areas of medical (technology) and production, uncertainty quantification of the model results, and the technical implementation of the research results in our machine hall. In our team you will work with interdisciplinary experts, cooperate with renowned partners from industry (e.g. Bosch, Siemens, Hexagon, Mercedes, Airbus) and research (e.g. University Hospital Aachen, University Hospital Düsseldorf, KIT, TUM) and have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources. Our own high-performance computing cluster (768 cores, 1.96 TB RAM, 4 Nvidia A100) in combination with our own 5G network offers the possibility to carry out even computationally intensive investigations - an excellently equipped laboratory area with more than 1000 m² and demonstrators from production and medicine make it possible to implement the results in reality. We offer an environment that fosters creativity, innovation and collaboration, and gives you a platform to make a difference and drive change. At WZL, you will develop your professional expertise and be trained to become a leader. WZL's extensive network and internal career pool will ensure that you have very successful career prospects. What you can expect: Freedom to independently implement innovative ideas using unique technical equipment (computer clusters, (mobile) robotics, machine vision systems, 5G) A team that celebrates successes, travels together, spends free time together and creates a common working environment. Longer stays abroad (e.g. in Italy, Brazil or Thailand) are possible and desirable Internationally visible scientific work and publications Exciting and diverse national and international industry and research projects Opportunity for doctoral studies at RWTH Aachen University Excellent career options Ihr ProfilYou are enthusiastic about new technologies and enjoy creative, interdisciplinary work in a dynamic team. You also have an independent, structured, quality and result-oriented work style. You are curious and willing to learn about and combine different application-related topics. If you also want to contribute to a safe and sustainable orientation of medical and production technology through your research, we look forward to receiving your application. You should hold a university degree (Master's or equivalent) in engineering or natural sciences. The following skills round out your profile: Previous knowledge of AI & Machine Learning Basic knowledge of medical technology Programming skills in at least one programming language, e.g. Python, C++ or R Interest in the interface between medical and manufacturing technology Professional, confident written and oral communication in German and English Would you like to prepare for the next step in your career with a PhD? If you meet the formal requirements and possess or are interested in acquiring some of the listed skills, we look forward to receiving your application (cover letter, curriculum vitae, certificates by e-mail to the contact person listed). The application process consists of an initial video interview and a more in-depth on-site interview.Ihre AufgabenYour day-to-day work will consist of a diverse and varied portfolio of tasks. Activities include: Management of publicly funded projects in the field of virtual metrology in medical technology (machine learning modeling, uncertainty quantification, etc.) Participation in research and development projects for industry Supporting the development of the team in the field of virtual metrology in medical technology (e.g. through research proposals or publications) Representing the team and presenting research results in publications, at congresses and conferences Supervision of student theses and management of a team of student assistants Supervision and teaching of courses in the area of Sensing & Robotics Über unsRWTH is a certified family-friendly University.
