The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term initially for one year.
There is the possibility of an extension of two more years.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position with the possibility of a part-time contract upon request.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.

State-of-the-Art Facilities
Our petrophysical laboratories enable us to analyze hydraulic and thermal rock properties. Field measurements cover a wide range of geophysical and geoscientific methods, seamlessly integrating data into models and simulations.


Education and Collaboration
We contribute to the B.Sc./M.Sc. programs "Applied Geosciences" and "Georesource Management" at RWTH Aachen, as well as the prestigious Joint M.Sc. program "Applied Geophysics," offered with TU Delft and ETH Zurich.

Ihr Profil

You have a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) and a completed PhD in geophysics or related fields such as geosciences, physics, or engineering. You bring strong programming skills and ideally experience in teaching. You work independently, have excellent teamwork and communication skills, and are confident in expressing yourself in English. Knowledge of German is advantageous but not required.


Your expertise in areas such as geological and geothermal modeling, geothermal process simulation, uncertainty analysis or machine learning will complement and expand our research spectrum. Experience in acquiring and managing third-party funded projects is a strong asset.


Ihre Aufgaben

In this position, you will:


  • Research: Develop your own research profile, acquire and lead research projects, and publish your findings in high-impact journals and conferences.
  • Teaching: Participate in our Bachelor's and Master's programs by delivering lectures and exercises (4 semester hours per week) and supervising final theses. Courses may be offered in German or English, depending on your preference.
  • Collaboration and Administration: Support the Institute's administration and organization while contributing to a collaborative and innovative research environment.
